Golf

Playing golf in Tenerife is twice as special as elsewhere, the great weather conditions on the island mean that you can play almost every day of the year and there are nine fantastic courses to play. Golfers can enjoy spectacular views of Mount Teide which can be seen from some of the courses. On others they will be teeing off next to the Atlantic Ocean with the sound of the waves breaking in the background. Added to this there are no great distances to travel to get to the courses wherever you are on the island, which means that you can enjoy playing on every one of them even during a short holiday.

Sun and Sand

Tenerife's many beaches are fine examples of its great natural diversity. Playa Jardin in Puerto de la Cruz is one of the islands most famous beaches with shimmering black volcanic sand, while offering a full range of facilities. Its name symbolises the numerous gardens located along the edge of the beach. At Puerto de la Cruz and its direct surroundings you can also find smaller beaches and a number of natural pools formed by ancient volcanic eruptions. Some beaches are popular and lively, while others are hidden and isolated. There are also beaches that are quiet and relaxing, where the whole family can take a dip in the sea while others are more rugged and untamed and popular amongst surfers. All these beaches guarantee the same crystal-clear waters due to the ocean currents of the Atlantic.

Scuba Diving

The excellent Cardumen diving centre is located in Puerto de la Cruz, two minutes away from the fishing harbour. Its experienced local staff knows the spectacular seabed to perfection. The centre runs two boats daily which all have the necessary navigation and safety equipment. This centre offers PADI (Professional Association of Diving Instructors) courses at all levels as well as the hire, sales and repair of equipment.

Stargazing

The skies of Tenerife are extraordinarily clear and for this reason the island has an international Astrophysics Institute with various observatories and telescopes. It is not only the scientists that come from all over the world that can enjoy these exceptional conditions for stargazing. You too can enjoy this activity during your holiday by taking one of the many organised excursions. On certain days large numbers of amateurs gather in the Teide National Park to observe showers of shooting stars, such as the yearly Perseid or Leonid meteor showers. However the Tenerife sky gives a spectacular and unique show almost every night of the year.

Horse-riding

In Tenerife the bridle-paths cross mountain prairies, ancient trails and through leafy forests. It is a different and enjoyable way of getting to know the island and its countryside. Various companies offer the chance to ride freely, with a guide, or in small organised groups and even the opportunity to take a ride that lasts several days.

Hiking

Tenerife has a great number of tracks and footpaths in a variety of environments, settings and climates, all with different levels of difficulty. Hiking helps you gain a deeper understanding of the island, discover its beauty and get to know the way of life of its people including the aboriginal population, the "guanches," who made the first trails through the dense laurisilva forest and the grazing areas near Mount Teide.

Paragliding

Tenerife has more than 40 different launch sites for paragliders from all over Europe to enjoy. The great variety of flying areas located near one another plus an exceptional climate that allows flying almost every day of the year are the two great attractions of paragliding in Tenerife. This sport is very popular on the island and there are many clubs that offer courses, advice (essential to get to know the wind patterns for safe flying) and the chance of flying tandem (a good way to get started).

Tenerife has always had a great commercial tradition. There are a huge variety of shops in our charming fishing town Puerto de la Cruz, in La Laguna - Unesco declared World Heritage site (25 km) - or in the capital Santa Cruz (35 km) that will ensure you have a great time on any shopping trip. There are famous brand names and competitive prices thanks to the special fiscal system in the Canary Islands that doesn't include VAT.

Casino

The Puerto de la Cruz Casino is situated in the centre of the Lago Martiánez swimming pool complex, one of the most well known and visited places in the town. The variety of leisure activities has turned it into one of the most striking centres in Tenerife as well as being a point of coastal transformation. The games room in the casino offers a wide range of options to enjoy exciting evenings. A team of professionals accompany the client on the table games, where one can choose from American roulette, black jack or poker.
